The Dark Knight. The word brilliant was invented to describe Heath Ledger's version of the Joker. No one will ever top him.
Oh, maybe in 30 years or so, when a whole new generation is out there waiting to be thrilled, but for the immediate future of Batman films, I think he should be conspicuouly referred to, maybe even mention that he came close to escaping from Arkham, but he's been contained. Perhaps once they allowed him access to make up and his own wardrobe, he became quite docile. Maybe even hint in another movie that prison uniforms are what make criminals stand out if they escape but the Joker would stand out no matter what, so they let him wear what he likes. Between that and cutting edge medication, he's controllable if not docile. Keep the character alive in the fans' minds.
I would hate to think of the Joker as being in a vegetative state. It would be too sad a reference toward Heath Ledger demise.
The greatest tragedy to his fans was that his untimely death means we will never again be dazzled by his brilliance. Heath became the role he played. You couldn't separate the character from the actor when he was on screen. There was never a moment that you looked past the role and saw Heath, He *was* that character. Heartbreaking loss to fans. I can't imagine how deeply tragic it is for his entire family.

My marketing group is considering how to work together to create some group blogs. It's fascinating to watch this group of authors (over 500 of them now) figure out how to put this altogether. We're working on the overall concepts now. Figuring out what areas we might fit into. Who's interested in what?
Putting it together is a bit like having a big puzzle and no picture - or only a little piece of it. We know it's a blog, but where is it, what does it look like, what is it doing?
We could end up with half a dozen blogs coming out of this that team up authors who - like me - blog infrequently but enjoy reading them. If it's a group that has many members, you blog less frequently but readers have plenty to see. Those who are avid bloggers and love to write, could take on a longer project with a smaller group.
So in a way, you could say Marketing for Romance Writers is pregnant with a blog, probably multiples.
Btw, you could take out the word romance and it would still work - many of our authors are in all sorts of genres. It's actually widened our base of experience. If you're an author, publisher, literary agent, or a promo service for authors, come join us.

Went shopping for lunch stuff for my household. There are 3 working adults who haul lunches. I use a store that has lots of specials and nabbed all kinds of goodies. Even picked up a box of 6 glazed sour cream crullers for 25 cents. *_* I won't eat those, but my hubby and son will love them in the mornings. Whew. Even with sales it was almost 100 bucks... it's no wonder grocery bills are so high.

My husband struck up a conversation with a person today while waiting for repair on our car. He came home with a card for a sales person for Freeman - so I went to their site because the man sounded very interesting. http://freemanco.com does promotions for companies, trade shows, events, etc. Check out their site. They showcase their creative ads and show you how they did certain ones. My favorite is the kayak ad.
Excellent material with a great WOW factor!

have you see http://doorQ.com yet? They launch officially Halloween. I got to meet some of the guys at the recent Gaylaxicon, which was really cool. I came in on the tail end (literally) of a photo session (minus my camera dammit) where they were posing for everyone. But I did get a picture of me between hotties James and Ty... (rhymes with *sigh*:) uploading soon.

Gaylaxicon is a sci fi con with gay themes. my first one was this weekend, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. planning to attend next year in DC.
Got to get out and do more like this. I learned so much! Kiernan Kelly and Vincent Diamond were incredibly helpful and taught me a lot - hope they gained from me as well.
Worn out and heading off to bed.

Someone said I was daring to use a non-human on the cover of my book. That is so cool. I love that comment.
It's gorgeous, and Laura Givens once again proves she's the queen of cover art. Here's a link to a good size view. http://kayelleallen.com/Excerpt-Jawk.html

I'm still waiting. Writing other things, trying not to think about it, but checking email all day on the weekends. I have a dratted day job still ... *sigh* and can't check personal email at work, so have to wait till I get home at night. I get up early and check before I go to work, and get online the minute I get home.
Am I the only person freaked out over not having a cover yet?

just hangin' out. I had planned to watch the Unit tonight but it's not on. Want to see what happens to Jonas Blane...
I'm a Dennis Haysbert fan. He looks big bad and mean in the upcoming promos. In an interview, he said he lost 25 pounds and 4 inches off his waist. He'll be looking like Luc Saint-Cyr before you know it. :) I patterned my character's physical description after him.
6'5", black, dark eyes (Luc wears contacts that completely cover the whites too). Solid, a man's man who loves men (and women). Mmmm, gotta love a man who's secure in himself. He is the ultra alpha. I'd love to see DH play him.

I'm spinning my wheels, feeling like the hamster in my mood icon. Going in circles.
Waiting for the cover art of Jawk, Tales of the Chosen. The edits are no big deal - I whip thru those easily. But I feel like the book is done when I get the cover. Since Romance Junkies is doing a review of the ARC now, and I have a feature coming up in October where it will be displayed, I really want to see that cover now.
Emailed the art director to ask what the timeline is. Maybe I'll hear back from her today? *hope hope*

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to plan. I had to finish a manuscript, which I finally did, and then start another one for a different deadline. Ok, it's started, but not ready.
In the meantime, I have promos to do for the books that are already out there.
No one told me that being an author was like being on a treadmill that you can't get off. *_*
Why do we do all this? Running from group to group, writing into the wee hours, never having a personal life...
Because when I write I feel whole. When I create I am -- for at least a fleeting moment -- content. When I worldbuild, I feel powerful, complete, satisfied.
Is this what it means to be fulfilled? I'll have to get back to you on that. I have another deadline to meet first.

Have been updating sites and looking back over things i've tried in the past. deciding how I want to proceed. using a new keyboard and it's not as clicky as my previous one. it tends to be harder to press the keys so my words are stringing together and i'm not typing very fast. it was a gift and it's gorgeous... but. It's also black with white keys, and in the dimly lit area on my keyboard tray, i can't even see where the F keys are. They are truly Fkeys today...
so, updating livejournal, which i sadly forgot i even had. how bad is that? :( recreated my blogger account so i can comment on other people's blogs. I usually blog on myspace. there's not enough time in the day to write blogs and journals, myspace, yahoo, email and then a book too. O_o
so, here. we'll see how it goes.

This June I attended my first Writer's Weekend conference in Seattle WA. I met terrific people. It felt like I was a sponge underwater - soaking up so much there was no room for more. My roomie, who is my CP, sat down with me and the two of us went over what she learned and then what I learned. Came away with double the goodies.
What a great time we had! I'll definitely go back.
